- YOUTH AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AGAINST AIDS {YACAA}
The organization was set up in August 2000. Apart from myself as the Executive Director and Project Coordinator, our other staff when we started was a young school leaver who helped with fieldwork. Our office was located in a spare room of the Chairman of our Board of Trustees, Mr. Akin Adeoya, Managing Director, M2 Magazine and our equipment consisted of a laptop and a few chairs.
My own background scarcely qualified me to set up and run a Non-Governmental Organization{NGO}, which aimed to contribute to the prevention and control of the further spread of HIV/AIDS. I had worked with the Nigeria Network of Non-Governmental Organizations {NNNGO} as Assistant Programme Officer for three years, and then spend four years as Coordinator of HIV/AIDS unit of the network, which was my first experience of public health work. Towards the end of this latter period, I also began to produce posters and leaflets on AIDS, as well as giving talks on the subject to groups of youths. I was later appointed as the Local Branch Coordinator of the Network for Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria in May 1999.
YACAA began in August 2000 with a Project Coordinator and a Field Worker. In September 2004, the project employed seven volunteers as follows:

4. Director of Mobilization
5. Financial Project Manager
6. Evaluation Officer
7. Programme Assistant
In August 2007, the organization received a GRANT of $30,000 {N4,000,000} from World Bank under the World Bank HIV/AIDS Programme Development Project {IDA Credit No:3556 UNI} HAF 2 to organize a month-long Sensitization Workshops on Prevention & Management of HIV/AIDS for youth clubs, associations and community-based organizations in Amuwo-Odofin, Badagry, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ikorodu and Kosofe Local Government areas of Lagos State,
Nigeria.
